Bottom Of The Bag

Here is everything left in my work file, pretty much as it occurred to me.  I will now turn my attention to cranking out a new book for September.  See all you folks then.  In the meantime, if you haven't discovered my current books, please feel free to click the links over in the sidebar.  I depend on sales of these books to keep from dropping out of the middle class. (smile)  I do wish a glorious summer to you all.

"You can wander a loneliness on your own, but it takes two to explore a solitude."

"Yes, I've been lost in a crowd, usually having gone there for that purpose."

"It's a rare couple that doesn't celebrate the anniversary of more than one promise."

"You cannot return to a time, but you can return to a place where promises were made."

"There is almost no good thing you search for alone in life that you don't find only half of."

"I've learned this about paying your respects -- it is very hard to overdress for the occasion."

"My wish for everyone is to live happily ever after -- but not until your story is over."

"You can appeal to someone's common decency, but you can't supply it for them."

"How to make a marriage last?  You keep working at it, and in the meantime, you keep
celebrating anniversaries of the same wedding."

"I wouldn't mind living my life over, this time with the ability to say no."

"It is hard sometimes to remember that you woke up just a few hours ago with no intention whatever of antagonizing anyone."

"You can't talk sense to people who oppose it on principle."

"I dunno, there are days when I feel that if I walked down the street in a mask, no one would recall seeing anyone in a mask."

Today's thought question: "Haven't you always been too good with your hands to wring them now in despair?"

"The one thing I would guess about the Lord of Judgment is that He probably won't blame your parents."

It's not that two people say, "Let's grow apart."  It's that there's never anything else they feel like doing.

"The great unspoken truth is how much of kindness is unspoken truth."

"The advantage of silence over words is that there's a wider range of things you can claim you didn't mean by it."

"Stay out of the court of self-judgment, for the jury has already formed an opinion."

"I've never thought it my business to judge others, preferring to take the chance that I am not God."

"One of love's greater challenges is to travel diverging paths and still meet back every night at the same place."

With apologies where due,

A Watershed Moment...

"A watershed moment in life is when you realize that what you can or can't do is a decision, not a recollection."

"Learn to hold your tongue, and you will be fluent in every language and on all topics."

"Sometimes a lasting relationship just comes down to two people both wanting it to be the way it was."

"For most of us, the proof that there is Someone to pray to is the incontrovertible fact that there is someone to pray for."

So the other night I'm gazing into the stars and thinking, "Maybe we're alone in the universe because no one else got thrown out of Paradise."

"The good news?  The good news is that a meteor is headed for Earth and is expected to get here before the election."

A Message

I want to mention that I'm planning a new book, for September release, titled "Round Up The Usual Subjects, The Expanded Edition."  I intend it as a final, comprehensive collection of my quotes, containing the best from my first two books and a small increment of quotes I have written since. My aim is to produce a standard trade-size volume that I might offer to libraries and, perhaps, place in bookstores..

I plan the book in both hardcover and soft, in size, 6 x 9, slightly larger than the 5 x 8's I've been publishing.  I am bargaining with the renowned artist, Joan Brault, to supply a few illustrations (smile).

To buyers of my earlier books, I want to say that I don't expect you to line up to purchase the new book.  You have done your part already, and I ask no more.  I intend this book, as Shakespeare said, "For ages yet unborn" or at least for the 99.9 percent of the book-buying public who haven't yet run across my work.

Will I continue to post and tweet between now and September?  Very occasionally -- just enough to get you kind folks to check in once in a while, I hope.

Smiles to all,

Life's Choice

Life's Choice:  You can be the person it takes to get what you want, or you can be the person you want and take what you get.

"What's amazing, looking back, is how satisfying a life can be fashioned from dreams that never came true."

"Which of us is not a wanderer in this world, convinced that everyone else knows where they're going."

"You can tell a clever conspiracy, because the people it conspires against always think they are part of it."

"The way to argue with an articulate person is to answer with a silence and let them articulate it."

"Eventually you come to understand this -- that nothing you say is going to be any wiser than the person you say it to."

I Dreamed....

I dreamed that I was the last person on Earth, and I ran into two dogs deep in conversation, and one looked up and said, "Oh, forgive us, we thought you had all left."

"Me, I simply believe that no human being is going to get the last laugh.  I don't know that I would make a religion out of it, but many do."

"Life is a loan, and we are borrowers up to our eyeballs, and yet we debate whether there is a really a lender."

"You cannot always extend the network of your friends, but you can always extend the network of those you pray for."

"Shall I regret a dream that gave me so much hope for so long, merely because it never came true?"

If God Had Wanted...

"If God had wanted a better you, He would have created a better you, and that's the point -- He did."

"Sometimes you wish you were someone else entirely, although not usually anyone you've met personally."

"Only a man is allowed to give up.  There is always someone for whom a woman must carry on."

"You can see it as risking betrayal, disappointment and ingratitude, or you can see it as faith, hope and charity."

On the Seventh Day, the Creator sat back, took off his gloves and said,"No fingerprints.  They'll just have to find me in the sunsets."
